Stories Buried Beneath The Sand Series

Shell Island (Wrightsville Beach)

Seabreeze (Carolina Beach)

WilmingtoNColor Heritage Tours is proud to announce the official launch of its Coastal Carolina NColor Beach History Capsule Series, a powerful expansion of its award-winning Time Machine™ storytelling experience. This new series introduces two immersive historical presentations that uncover the often-overlooked Black history of North Carolina’s coast.

The Beach Capsule Series includes:

Shell Island: Wrightsville Beach Historical Presentation

This experience explores the origins of Wrightsville Beach through the story of Shell Island, a thriving Black-owned resort destination in the 1920s that once served as a vibrant space for leisure, culture, and community during segregation. Guests gain deeper insight into how Black entrepreneurship and coastal culture shaped the area long before modern development.

Seabreeze: Carolina Beach Historical Presentation

This presentation centers on Seabreeze, historically known as North Carolina’s Black beach, established and owned by the Freeman family—whose descendants continue to own beachfront property to this day. Guests learn directly about the legacy of Black land ownership, resilience, and cultural preservation that continues along the Carolina Beach shoreline.

Each Beach Capsule experience is designed as a guided historical presentation, combining visual storytelling, archival imagery, and place-based learning to connect past, present, and future. These experiences are ideal for families, schools, organizations, visitors, and lifelong learners seeking a deeper understanding of coastal North Carolina history beyond what is typically taught.

“WilmingtoNColor was built on the belief that history should be felt, not just told,” said founder Cedric Harrison.

“The Beach Capsule Series allows us to expand that mission beyond downtown Wilmington and bring forward coastal stories that deserve visibility, respect, and preservation.”

The Coastal Carolina NColor Beach History Capsule Series is now booking for 2026, with limited availability.
